In a play to pivot toward serving the consumer directly, Dolby explored making their own physical products and digital companion apps, beginning with a soundbar that featured Dolby Atmos technology.
We helped them design the unboxing experience from a digital perspective and how using a companion app could accelerate setup, make optimization a breeze, and even act as a remote control.
For strategic reasons, Dolby decided not to launch their soundbar, but the work inspired them to continue pursuing consumer products.
As of 2018, I’m excited to report that they’ve launched their Dolby Dimension headphones. The companion app to this product features a volume controller that bares a striking resemblance to the one we created for them.
